Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon
This past weekend I ventured up to Savannah Georgia to run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. The race didn’t go as well as I had hoped due to some IT band issues, but the weekend itself was a ton of fun! My aunt, two of my cousins, my cousins fiance, my mom and my boyfriend were all there, some to run the race and some to cheer us runners on.
Around noon on Friday, we checked into our hotel which had amazing views of the Savannah River.
That afternoon we took a short ferry ride across the river to the race expo which was super crowded with runners. Despite the crowds, the expo was set up great, and we were able to get our race bags and swag.
The remainder of the day was spent walking around the city and browsing the quaint shops on the river front.
Saturday morning we woke up bright and early for the race start. Fortunately the race start line was right infront of our hotel, so we were able to stay warm inside and headed out to the start about 10 minutes before the gun went off.
Our group named our team “Southern Stride” and we definitely stood out in our bright neon tanks and compression socks. During the race people along the race route yelled out to me “Go Super girl!” which I loved and was motivation to stay strong.
Like I said before, this was not my best race, and wasn’t a PR for me. I started out good, averaging a 6:45/mile pace but I had to stop twice to stretch out my IT band in my left leg, which got really tight around mile 7. The temps were in the 40′s and I think that may have cause some of my problems. (I’m not use to the cool weather!)
All in all, it was a fun race, with great crowd support and awesome music all along the course. If you get the chance to run a Rock ‘n’ Roll race, I highly recommend it!
I was given a new sports bra to try out last week and decided to wear it during the half marathon. (I know, I know. I broke the cardinal runners rule of “never race in something new without trying it out first.” But fortunately the bra was awesome and didn’t cause any chaffing.) Sassy Pants Boutique sent me the Oiselle High Ten sports bra to test out. I had heard alot of great things about Oiselle products, so I was pretty excited to get to try one out for myself.
I typically wear nike sports bras to race, but sometimes they can be restricting on my rib cage and become uncomfortable in long races. This sports bra was awesome! It has a bit of padding (to give my girls a little something), but not a ton, and it provided enough support without being too tight on my rib cage. I loved the bright orange color of the bra too! It remained comfortable through out the entire race. I think this may be my new racing bra!
Have you ever run a Rock ‘n’ roll race?
Do you like racing in cold or warm weather?
